POKER ETIQUETTES ON THE POKER TABLE
Vegas I must say is where a poker lover would want to be. Though Poker is one of the most common card games in the USA, there is a lot more to it than an amateur understands. Despite playing the game for several years with friends and colleagues I was unaware of the poker etiquette when playing professional.
But before we get to poker etiquette, I must emphasize that playing poker in a casino is in no way close to playing it for fun. One must stick on to fundamentals and there is a lot of money involved, which is all the more reason to be careful. You would never want to play poker when you are sad or not in the best of your minds as one needs to be observant to win. Also one must know that as stakes increase, there are more skilled people and the risk is very high. So why play the $ 5/10 game when you are consistently winning at the $ 2/4 game.
Now it is important that one learns poker etiquette before playing, to simply avoid others ganging up to take you out of the game. It is indeed very likely to happen so, if you do not maintain the poker table etiquette. Basically all you need to do is be polite and respect the dealer and other players. Most beginners often make mistakes and this can get on the nerves of other experienced people on the table, but it is important one does not brash talk. Also mistakes are inevitable when you deal with a human dealer. Though the mistake might cost you a fortune, it is important to maintain the poker table etiquette and to never argue or fuss about it. Instead you can make your point to the dealer in a polite manner or ask for the attention of the floor man to watch over the dealer.
To play fair and to wait for your turn also falls under basic poker etiquette. This is all the more important for amateurs as raising or calling out of turn may ruin the game, and one must remember that it is easy to find out when this is done intentionally. Peeking into others cards is considered bad gaming spirit and is one if the most important poker etiquette one needs to maintain. Though these are simple enough to be remembered, it is altogether a different game when the stakes are high. It is expected of all players to understand and follow poker etiquette for everyone’s good.

| Playing Tournament Style – Texas Hold’em |
There are many variations of the popular game of poker, but the one that is the current raging favorite is the Texas Hold’em style. The objective of the game is for each player to win the ‘pot’, the money contributed by the players themselves towards the winnings. The game consists of two cards dealt to the players, face down and five community cards – a series of three cards called the ‘flop’ and two individual cards called the ‘turn’ and the ‘river’ respectively. The players can check the cards, fold, or bet after each time the dealer deals. A player can place his bet on the flop, on the turn or on the river in this style of poker. |
